Wavelinc provides free public WIFI to the 2010 Crawford County Fair. Folks that visited the 2010 Crawford County fair were able to stay connected this year thanks to a generous donation by Wavelinc to install several WIFI hot spots around the fairgrounds in order to provide free unlimited usage to anyone that wished to log on. Wavelinc's owner Kurt Fankhauser reported that during the week of the fair the daily usage of the free WIFI was average of 100 users each day with several days topping off at over 150. Many people were thankful to be able to stay connected weather it was their ability to check email or update their Facebook accounts. "Anytime we can give back to the community we seize the opportunity," Kurt said. "We'd love to provide the service in the upcoming years as well since it appeared to be a huge success."

Some time around 2pm Friday afternoon, a contractor trenching hit our primariy copper pair that provides our internet backbone to us. Customers reported the outage and within 30 minutes we were back online having switched over to the backup. Howver duing this time service speeds may have been slower due to the backup line not having as mutch capacity as the primary. The main line was fully repaired by 9:30pm and service was switched back over to that with full speeds returning again. Thank you for your patience.

3/20/2010
We just will be upgrading to a fiber optic line in the next month. This will enable WAVELINC an almost unlimited future-proof source of bandwidth. Also speed plans are going to be restructured and will be offering more speed and lower prices. Check back for updates as the transition happens.

There was a small outage this morning, for about an hour, not everyone was affected though as it was isolated to customers north of Bucyrus. All service is back up 100% now.

9/15/2009
Some time after noon today a truck struck some power lines causing an outage in some areas of Bucyrus. This caused the internet service to be interupted for about an hour or two. As soon as power was restored the internet service came back and as of now everything is running 100%.

There was an email server switchover that took place today. Email service was unavailiable during the transition but should be up and running 100% now. Customers may need to restart their computers to update their DNS with the new IP address for the servers.

At approximately 9:00am a tree trimming service cut through a major fiber optic line that supplies the Bucyrus and surrounding area's. This disrupted internet service to most of Crawford County. Most providers went down instantly and even some cell phone service was affected. At 9:30am Time Warner advised they were aware of the problem and would get it fixed ASAP. At approximately 1:45pm the repair was made and Time Warner advised that service may be disrupteded temporarily while other repairs were made. Its is now 1:55pm and all service for Wavelinc customers has been restored 100%. Thank you for being patient during the outage.

Shortly after 6:00pm Tuesday evening we had a segment of our network serving 75% of customers go down. The problem was traced to one of our main backhauls which rarely ever go down. Rebooted the link and everything appeard fine and was up and running by around 7:45pm. About 15 minutes later at around 8:00pm the backhaul was out again. This time it was completely dead and non-repairable. A new backhaul was installed and placed in service and running by 10:15pm. As of right now 11:30pm all the network is running 100%, total outage time about 4 hours. Thanks goes to all the customers who reported the outage and waited patiently for the repairs.

As most of you know Bucyrus is in a state of emergency right now with flooding in certain area's of the city. This has affected a main tower in Bucyrus as we are currently running on generator power and will continue to for some time. Please be patient as we are working round the clock to keep internet service online for all our customers. Everyone should be online except when we are working on our generator which shouldn't be down for more than 30 minutes at a time. Thank for for your patience.

Yesterday we installed a new email spam firewall which will significantly clean out all the spam in your email if you use our email service. So far it has already proven very effective and we have put some statistics on the front of the website that are updated in real-time so you can see how effective it is. You don't have to do anything to take advantage of the spam protection as it does everything it needs to do on our end. Yet just another way Wavelinc is setting the benchmarks for the rest of the competition.

At approximately 8:45pm Wednesday evening a series of severe thunderstorms moved into the area. The Oceola tower went down at the beginning of the storm disrupting internet service to only that isolated area with everything else still online. By 9:00pm the Oceola tower had been brought up online but by that time the storm had centered in the Bucyrus area and as far as we can tell a direct strike was taken onto one the main Bucyrus towers. Everything on the tower was lost as a result of the strike. This tower directly feeds about 20% of all WaveLinc customers and another 70% of the network infrastructure runs through it. So by 9:30pm it was looking like 90% of internet service was disrupted due to this storm. By the next morning it was confirmed that 7 of the 8 total towers were offline. One tower suffered a total loss due to equipment damage. A very long day was ahead. This would require a complete re-deployment of everything on this one tower; a process that typically takes several days to weeks. All while fighting un-cooperative weather this process was achieved by 6:00pm Thursday. Bringing back online about 80% of the total network and leaving just another 20%. The remaining 20% where brought back online by 8:30pm leaving the total downtime to less than 24 hours. I would like to thank everyone that helped achieve that and also our customers for bearing with us through this event.
